When our leader launched into the hymn this past Sunday, I realized halfway through that I was singing the bass part without realizing it. That is because from the time I was fourteen or so, I began trying to sing bass on all the hymns, four of which were sung every Sunday morning back then – so I got lots of practice.
The music I grew up on is so much a part of who I am, I did not even consciously think about singing bass. And I knew every note, even though it had likely been decades since I last heard that hymn! What a legacy.
That made me dream a bit.
Will what we do by infusing the soul of Jesus’s prayer for perfect unity into people today become life-giving blood to someone fifty years from now?
Will someone well-advanced in years suddenly think with a smile, “Wow, I learned that at Streamside and it has been the fabric of my life ever since!”
I believe so. God knows exactly who his heirs are and his DNA is deeply planted in each of us!
