All of these would-be kings want to succeed the current king, Barack Obama, arguably the first President of the United States who really sees himself as a king, as witnessed by his repeated executive fiat ignoring the rule of law, the Constitution of the United States.
I drew these comparisons at I researched 1 Kings and the Cycle. A major transition is taking place in 1 Kings, just as it is in America, and we have much to learn from King David’s time. We have even more to learn if we look for who is missing from the listing of presumptive nominees and challengers, compared to who is missing in the turmoil of King David’s final hours on the throne.
King David is old and dying slowly, just as King Barack’s reign is on its last legs. David’s presumptive nominee, as assumed by outsiders such as you and me and the press corps, is Adonijah, his oldest living son, who will succeed to the throne if David dies without naming a successor, just as Hillary and Donald control of their party’s nomination process up to the current moment.
Adonijah takes matters into his own hands by declaring his own version of a “convention”, inviting people loyal to him to a banquet, but not inviting people loyal to King David, and by simply acting as if he were already king. Hillary and Donald are acting much the same, using power, wealth, and influence to cover over obvious flaws. What is the flaw in both these situations?
Adonijah declares himself king and then performs ritual sacrifices to God afterwards, just for show, assuming God is along for the ride. Adonijah fails to inquire of God, and his hand-selected priest Abiathar apparently cannot hear God, either. Hillary has not darkened the door of a church, to my knowledge, in quite some time other than to campaign in one. Donald claims to be a Christian, even an evangelical, yet exhibits nothing of the grace and humility of Jesus, the true king.
What is missing in all of this? Does the presumptive nominee seek out and hear from God?
David is so old that he does not know Adonijah has begun acting as king. Barack is so withdrawn from reality that he does not know he has lost all credibility around the world. In both cases, someone needs to advise them of these hard facts.
In David’s case, it is Nathan the prophet, who has proven repeatedly that he has been chosen by God to communicate God’s will to David. Nathan reminds the failing David that long ago David swore to appoint his younger son Solomon as king. David realizes his error and immediately has Solomon anointed as king in complete unity with God.
So who is the Nathan of our times? The answer may surprise you.
It is every American citizen who has accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and KING (He has risen today!!) and who has the Holy Spirit of God firmly planted in his or her heart! We are the ones who must remind our leaders who the true king is!
God will speak through our sacred votes, if cast with the image of Jesus as King.
The presumptive nominee can be brought down or suddenly repent based on the power of fervent prayer and our votes.
