Just as a blood sample and subsequent lab analysis reveal intricacies of our spectacular uniqueness, our spiritual DNA has multiple statistical permutations and probabilities dating back thousands of years and thousands of generations.
One way to start thinking about the complexities of our makeup and what we have in common is to think of ourselves as a body – the Bible certainly does that – and to ask who goes into the body and what goes out. Engineers use fancy terms like energy balance and mass balance to look at the ins and outs of a problem to be solved.
Streamside – Finding Peace through Perfect Unity looks at a “flow” entering this body and what blocks it from flowing outward. Its conclusion is that we never completely understood the “Great Omission.” Yes, you need to read the book all the way to the end to learn what that means, and it is worth the journey.
But before analyzing in depth all the chromosomes of our body of faith, we can ask which “personality traits” are missing in the body as we know it, just as we might ask whether someone has a genetic physical deficiency and then move to treat it.
The conclusion to our recent series called “Stop! Look! Listen!” hinted that there may be three things blocking our path to unity, captured in the acronym “ACE.”
ACE stands for Aggregate – Celebrate – Elevate.
There is no way currently for the body of Christ to aggregate to any great extent, although great hope lies in ever-evolving technology. This is why I believe God waited until now to begin amplifying the desire for unity, which is simmering in many places.
And since we cannot aggregate, how can we celebrate together in the spirit of King David dancing before the Ark of the Covenant (1 Chronicles 15 and 16)? Technology today may make that possible.
And once we learn to celebrate together, we can learn how to elevate the persecution of our body parts locally and internationally in the same way that stomping hard enough brought down the walls of Jericho!
Stop back this coming week as we look at the possibilities!
