This Independence Day, we celebrate the greatest political union ever known, the United States of America, where God created all his children to be equal, with the inalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Yet we mourn those brothers and sisters who are not treated that way by their countries.
The Declaration of Independence is not far from Streamside, where the Charter of Unity we hope to derive from the Streamside experience also desires freedom to rejoice with all our brothers and sisters around the world. We know how hard this will be to do.
Yet the freedom of unity among the children of God is not a man-made idea or agenda. It is simple obedience to the word of God, an empowering yearning that cannot be suppressed forever any more than the colonists could endure the lack of religious freedom.
Celebrate today. Celebrate the freedom to yearn for unity at Streamside.
