Again, whether I am qualified is not really the question, which is:
Are current events pointing to a parallel between Israel’s Old Testament blessing, disobedience, disunity, forgiveness, and restoration by God and a similar pattern now coming toward the New Testament church of Jesus Christ?
I do not know the answers. But I am called to study the evidence in the Bible and to ask what if?
And an American may have a key insight not as evident to others.
That insight is based on the founding of America based on the Declaration of Independence, which appeals straight to our Creator God – that all God’s children are endowed with the inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Our nation was founded on flight from religious persecution by government and it has defended those inalienable rights around the world.
As I sat down to write today, I realized it is Veteran’s Day. I did not plan it this way, but I think God did: no one has fought harder in world history for the rights of others than our veterans and current heroes serving today, but their experience today underscores why we too may be headed for disaster:
For the first time in our history, the very rights Americans have fought to preserve around the world – Liberty!! – are now being taken away from us at a frightening rate by our own government! This fact is what triggered the warning in my heart, and it could not be demonstrated more clearly than in the loss of religious liberty within our military.
So rather than an objection, I believe it is the obligation of an American to take up this study of biblical parallel and to compare not only Old Testament Israel with the New Testament church, but also with the UNITED States of America.
Streamside is, after all, about God’s command for perfect unity.
In Part 6, I will lay out the master plan for the study God has laid on my heart. Hurry back!
