America began with nothing but immigrants and hardship, under the perversion of justice by the rulers of the day. But the Declaration of Independence, which we celebrate today, and the Constitution were based on absolute liberty from tyranny. Much of the guidance for America’s foundation came from the New Testament. Jesus said, “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32…., NASB). Truth and freedom are the bedrock of America, “one nation under God.”
Tragically, just as Israel failed horribly to obey the commands set down by God through Moses, in many cases due to the evil effects of the foreign culture they invaded; America is now failing badly in many cases due to the evil effects of foreign culture invading us.
But what do I mean by “foreign culture” in America? I do not mean hard-working immigrants who flock to our shores “yearning to be free.” I do mean the fomenters of anarchy, working in the shadows to destroy our children first and our freedoms one by one through disunity.
When the day comes, and it has come, when the American flag is not flown in America because it might offend someone; when free speech is illegal; when leaders can openly lie with impunity; the Cycle so powerfully introduced in the Old Testament has come to roost in America. We now stare Steps 6 and 7 of the Cycle – warnings and judgment – directly in the face. Where did we get off track?
Deuteronomy 18 gives the answer. In response to God’s commands to not listen to anything that is clearly detestable to Him, He says:
“I will raise up a prophet from among [them], and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him…whoever will not listen to my words, I will still require [them] of him. But the prophet who speaks a word…which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he speaks in the name of other gods, will die” (verses 18-20, NASB).
That prophet God raised up was and is Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, and Messiah of Israel, promised by God. For the majority of America’s 230 years, our country was influenced by the words of Jesus.
In contrast, we now have a Justice of the Supreme Court declaring as a self-proclaimed prophet that each person is free to create his own reality and his own truth, independent of God. In so doing he declared words not of God and perverted the Constitution of the United States.
This is the wrong kind of freedom that began with removal of prayer from our schools in 1954. The right kind of freedom is Cycle Step 8: remember the never-ending love of God; and Step 9: confess the error of our ways.
