Make special note of this date: June 10, 2013 - the day Streamside overflowed and began its “follow-through” journey to unity. Please revisit the “About Streamside” tab on our website to refresh your memory on our vision.
Last Monday, God spoke.
As she boarded the D-Line light rail car at Broadway and I-25 and sat across from me, I noticed she was wearing a cross – not unusual at all. But as I chatted with the guy I see every morning, I noticed that this woman bowed her head for quite some time, then smiled, then opened her eyes and looked out the window, absorbed in thought.
Every time I see someone wearing a cross (except for bling), I am frustrated because that person is a brother or sister of mine in the family of Jesus, and yet I have no way of meeting them.
This day, I closed my eyes for just a moment and prayed, “Lord, if this is the moment you have been training me for, so let it be. If she gets off at the same stop, I will take a huge risk and speak to her.”
She did!
[Gulp!]
“Excuse me,” I stuttered, “Please forgive me, but I can’t resist asking if you were praying there on the train.”
Looking startled for a nano-second before a twinkle appeared she said, “No, I have a bad headache.” Then, smiling, she added, “But I pray on the train all the time!”
This daughter of Jesus took a much bigger risk than I did. In this culture, I could have been a grave danger to her, yet the Spirit moved her to respond.
Now there is a bright smile and a wave exchanged every day between two family members on the choo-choo who were total strangers just days ago. And the whole world can see something different going on.
She is the first total stranger outside of my direct or indirect contacts to come to Streamside and she is reading this today at my invitation.
On June 19 in Part 2, I will share with you what I shared with her in hopes you will pass it on!
